Saga Of A Tree Rat

Rat Chick Rat Rescue and Advocacy Group has been working to rescue a family of pet rats lost in Pennypack Park in Philadelphia PA.

The story begins with a boy and girl rat being transported past the park by bicycle. The rider "G" had an accident and the cage fell to the ground and the rats escaped and ran into the park. The rats were later discovered living in the base of a hollowed out tree trunk. "G" and Chris tried in vain to recover the rats and contacted Rat Chick Rat Rescue to help them recover their pets.
We got permission from the park commission to place a trap at the base of the tree and have caught several rats. Unfortunately people keep over feeding the rats making our trapping efforts less effective. As fancy rats are not cold hardy like their wild cousins we are in a race with Old Man Winter to save them.
On November 22nd we caught 28 tree rats and on December 2nd we caught the last remaining tree rat.
On Sunday December 14th we officially ended our Tree Rat Rescue having rescued ALL of the 51 tree rats.
Special thanks to everyone that helped with the rescue efforts.
